In other words, you're right; Lucas ignored it... hehehe, I just don't think
of it that way.

Ah, I see what you mean. :D

Some of the stuff in the newer books seems outlandish to me, which is why I
stopped reading them.

I can't remember which book it was in, but when I got to the one with the Sun
Crusher, I pretty much stopped.  In the middle of the book.  That was the last
one I read.

This is the first book of K. J. Anderson's Jedi Academy Trilogy. Jedi
Search, to be precise.

Up to date, I've read Empire Trilogy from T. Zahn, Jedi Academy Trilogy
from K. J. Anderson, Truce at Bakura from K. M. Tyers, and Bounty Hunter
Wars Trilogy from K. W. Jeter. I like them all actually, but I like Zahn
and Tyers most, and Anderson least. Anderson's books does not feel like
true Star Wars, and I think he pushed the limits beyond any reasonable
point. The most annoying thing was the numerous and surely more than
adequate reminders of the things from true SW universe, I mean films.
It's just like "I can't relate the things to true SW universe by the
content, I can't create a true atmosphere of SW universe by the style,
so here is the reminders for you, to remember why I put SW logo on the
cover". But I should admit that they are not so boring or unsatisfactory
at a degree to make reading a pain.

Now I decided that I should go in chronological order, and already
ordered an eight book batch from Amazon. There is a good timeline for
novels:

Additionally, while reading SW novels, having "Star Wars Encyclopedia"
and "Essential ...." series within the close reach, would be a nice
thing. All those reference material adds fun to the reading enjoyment.

I think that the Thrawn trilogy and the Jedi Academy
trilogy were both pretty good, but some of the other stuff is junk.

I read the Hier to the Empire trilogy, and I enjoyed it immensely.  I never
read the Jedi Academy books.

I think you read at least half of the first book from this trilogy..:-)
The most hated four books of the series as I heard are "Dark Saber" from
K. J. Anderson, "Children of The Jedi" and "Planet of Twilight" from B.
Hambley and "Crystal Star" from V. N. McIntyre. They are all cursed to
death by hard core fans. I haven't read any of them yet, and yes, I
will..:-) Because some fan sites criticize the "Bounty Hunter Wars"
trilogy as boring to death, but I find it nice, and even nicer than Jedi
Academy trilogy, which the same sites suggests as "must read".

Why not write about other folks in the rebellion?  Why not write about
smugglers trying to avoid the Imperial troops?  Gah.

Hmm... I think you can read "Tales of/from..." series (there are 5 of
them I think; Mos Eisley Cantina, Jaba's Palace, Bounty Hunters, Empire,
and New Rebellion), Bounty Hunter Wars Trilogy, and "X-Wing:..." series
(there are 9 of them I think, plus a 10th one named as "I, Jedi").

The last thing I heard is that Lucas himself won't make a third trilogy, but
would "leave it to someone else".

I heard it something similar to that, but it exactly was "there will be
no 3rd trilogy"..:-(

(...) You've nailed Anderson to a T. I can't stand his books, and most of the hard-core SW books fans have never forgiven him for the "editing" job he did on Tales from the Mos Eisley Cantina. One of the stories in there (which I think was written (...) (24 years ago, 1-Nov-00, to lugnet.starwars)
