Which raises another question:  How did Darth Maul know where to find them?

The message sent to the queen, "The death toll is catastrophic...."
A trace was made, and so he found them.

Naah.  I don't buy it.  How could Maul trace the signal?  And the guy who sent
the signal must have been broadcasting it widely, because he didn't know where
they went.

So somebody must have replied.  I thought it might have been when Padme came
back to the ship.  She touched a control on the console, and the message
started to replay.  But then she was interupted by Jar-Jar.  So it seemed at
that point that she hadn't replied.  Who knows?

Okay. Some communication devices talk to each other, despite
there not being any particular response by the other party?
Do not modems talk to each other, before any actual message
or data is sent? And fax machines, training each other?
A broadband signal is broadcast, saying "Look! Here is a message!"
In order for the message to be received, a signal is sent
back, saying "A message! That's nice! Give it here!"
I believe that is called a handshake? Is this not a valid method
of validation? Only authorised receivers can download the
message? It could be the handshake that is traced. Sort of
like a Star Trek hailing frequency thingie.
