I myself tend to build most often to ambient noise - I close the door to the
room most of the way, but my wife is usually doing something that fills the
quiet.
When I was in school, I tended to build only when I was home for the long
weekends, particularly over Christmas and such (All my stuff was at my
parents place since I was in college residence).
The point is that I found it quite enjoyable to play seasonal music while
building. In the end the Pogues "Christmas in New York" was one of my
favorite building themes because I would belt out the song with the lead
singer, and I sing so bad that I actually sort of sound like the guy. I
dunno but building with lego over the holidays takes me back to the days
when I was 9 and I would open up that big christmas present, the whole time
hearing the little bricks clink around inside...
