If I do listen to music while I'm building it's typically an eclectic,
random mix of my favourite songs, no particular decade or style, that I have
compiled over the last couple of years. Classical, disco, 80's rock/pop,
brit pop, dance, industrial, trance, a song from just about every genre is
typically played in a sitting and makes for a varied experience. Mostly it's
European artists/bands, though - don't much care for the typical music to
have come out of the U.S.
If I am building large spacecraft, though, I find that the most
inspirational music is from the classical suite "Holst: The Planets", which
I heard was a primary influence on John Williams for the Star Wars
soundtrack. The piece entitled "Mars: The Bringer Of War" is particularly
evocative of a cataclysmic space battle. It's probably my favourite piece of
orchestral music.
Of course, if I'm building a SW model then it has to be the SW soundtrack
;-)
