I think you may have heard wrong.
I first read Destination a long long time ago. I read CoMC about the same time
and I’ve reread both of them several times since, and in my considered
judgement, they’re not at all alike. Not even close. Sure, there’s some revenge
in both, but that’s about it.

It’s just not
likely to happen, and with a book that’s been around for 48 years, isn’t
commonly found on bookstore shelves, and was written by someone who’s not a
household name after all these years, it’s even less likely.

Which was Eric’s point, I think... “here’s a book that’s really good but never
got filmed”.
I surmise that in 195x or 196x, when it was relatively recent, it would not have
been an easy movie to make well, if at all. Too many difficult effects, and too
cerebral when what was wanted were giant ants and 50 foot tall slime
monsters....
and now, as we all say, it’s too old.

That would be a bit difficult, since his story wasn't published until 1956, 17 years after Batman first graced the cover of Detective Comics #32, and 16 years after the Joker was introduced in Batman #1.
