From looking at the data sheets, it's going to be a bit more of a project than just "hooking it up". At a minimum you'll need to have a small micro to decode the dual PWM outputs, and they (AD) have a data sheet describing the use of a Parallax (...) Ncm is the metric measure for torque, imperial is ft/lb's hence 5Ncm is the the amount of torque required before the gear will 'slip', 2.5Ncm before it will engage again. the difference is the hysterisis. one would assume that Lego has a range of (...) (25 years ago, 16-Oct-00, to lugnet.robotics)

BTW, the Duplo MyBot control unit must have a similar sensor built in. It detects acceleration or tilt in four different directions. It's a closed system however, powered by 2 AA batteries. The set is $50 - not a cheap source for ripping apart for (...) (25 years ago, 16-Oct-00, to lugnet.robotics)

Time to jump in.... The FOS uses a small surface mount LED. It's about 2.5mm x 3 mm and mounted to a thin PCB. There are what look like diodes and what I would guess are current limiting resistors on the board also, so good luck trying to have (...) (...) If you don't use a tiny ultra bright one you won't get much... Also, the circuit it the thing is already making sure the power flows to the LED one way. Use the light gray pegs that have a 1-length dowel on one side and a stud on the other side. These convert holes to studs, so it is easy to make the joint you want. Have you tried using Virtual PC (or Real PC)? I believe that Virtual PC at least supports some USB devices, maybe the Camera is supported. BTW, has anyone thought of extending NQC --or any of the other alternative RCX programming environments-- to (...) (25 years ago, 7-Oct-00, to lugnet.robotics)

Help I am building a gripping mechanism and am using pneumatics to do the squeezing. Due to the orientation of the hole on the base of the cylinder I was "forced" to attach a beam in such a way that is now puts me in a bind. The beam in question (...) (25 years ago, 7-Oct-00, to lugnet.robotics)

Having had to dismantle an RCX at one stage, I would point out that the battery connectors are not solidly attached to the main circuit board inside the RCX. (I have noted a lot of Lego electrics are built along those lines - relying on mechanical (...) (25 years ago, 6-Oct-00, to lugnet.robotics)

Ah hah! That's where they come from! I had seen the $40 ones mentioned in this news group a while back and then found Walmart selling complete motion detector systems for $8. So I bought a couple and pulled the sensors out. So they only cost $4! (...) (25 years ago, 6-Oct-00, to lugnet.robotics)

I got Extreme Creatures about a month ago when it was last on special at S@H for $25. I guess for the Fibre Optic unit and the collection of parts, it's not a bad price. As far as I can tell, it's the only way you can get the FOS main unit from (...) (25 years ago, 5-Oct-00, to lugnet.market.shopping, lugnet.robotics.rcx, lugnet.robotics, lugnet.technic)

(...) No, the Lego GUI software and NQC both produce code for the same target -- a simple interpreted virtual machine implemented in the firmware. I have never looked at the code produced by the Lego GUI, but I can't imagine it would be that much (...) (25 years ago, 5-Oct-00, to lugnet.robotics)
