Larry and Pedro,
You both touch a chord,
I desperately want this war to be done with. I married, and am raising
children in a Quaker home, and I am comfortable with pacifism. Richard Nixon
was a Quaker. I am a pragmatist. I want a quick ending to an internationally
disruptive war and am a proud son of a decorated WWII pilot who never quite
recovered from his experiences.
It takes a strong leader to avoid unprovoked war and a weak one to lead a
country into unprovoked war. I am only one individual in a free speaking
society. Iraq is a country ruled by a ruthless tyrant who should be deposed.
There are other countries in this mold. My country is lead by a well-meaning
Christian who is unable to communicate his vision to the rest of the world.
We fight them. They are us. We are humanity. I weep for collateral damage. I
hope our president has made the right decision. I hope the world forgives us
for trying to better the world without effectively communicating to the rest
of the world our motive.
I take no stance in this conflict. I am powerless to make a difference.
Instead, I stand with the collateral damage that is the true wound of war.
I am a pragmatic pacifist. We are a strength, not a weakness. Choosing to
fight is the weak way out of any conflict unless there is no other choice.
Then we hope for a quick resolve. I hope for the people of Iraq,
Afghanistan, Burma, North Korea, etc. that there is a quick way out. I hope
our leaders vision is the right one. I will not fight or try to slow a quick
resolve to this conflict. I see no reason. I will protest a poorly thought
out strategy. In war, only hindsight is well thought out strategy.
Therefore, I wait and pray to God, Buddha, Jesus, Allah, and other religious
and non-religious entities. Only the future will tell.
