I already replied but I wanted to add that you're very lucky to have a friend
at TRU. I have a love-hate relationship with them. They're really the only
game in town, but the employees and managers are just terrible. Example- when
will you be getting X in? "We don't know, we have a truck in now but it's not
unloaded yet." "We DON'T have a computer to check" "We can't find out if its
at the warehouse" translation- We actually CAN do all of these things but
we're not going to.

can you imagine being a manager of a store, getting a truckload of
merchandise, and NOT having a list to tell you what's on the truck? I wish I
was the driver for THAT store (and dishonest enough). I could stop, unload
what I wanted, and no one would know!

They have actually told me that they cannot check the warehouse. Either they
are lying, or your friend is a miracle worker.

Third possibility: They are clueless. ;)  Just because a computer is capable
of something doesn't mean the minimum wage slaves in front of it know.  A
manager on the other hand, pretty much HAS to know.

I happen to know (via a TRU 'friend' of my own) that the TRU system has an
excellent tracking system - not only can they tell you if they have something,
but they can tell you if it's in the warehouse or in transit to the store, and
how many the store is getting.  They can also get that info for any store
serviced from the same warehouse. (although that's a bit trickier).

I have gotten these answers from managers before. I even sent an email to TRU
and they told me the same thing. Do you think it's possible that someone at
TRU, if they wanted to, could tell us when the new sets will be on shelves? My
reasoning is thus- 1. A TRU buyer went to ToyFare and ordered x number of
sets. 2. Lego probably told them when to expect delivery (this would be
important, I think, so that they could plan sales for the holidays, etc.)2.
That means TRU knows when to expect them from Lego, and unless they are
completely clueless, they know when they'll be able to get them to warehouses,
and then stores.

What do you think?

Chris

<A SNIPPING WE WILL GO> (...) Don't Lego employees, or at least contracted employees of Lego, stock the Lego aisle at TRU? Wouldn't this mean that the regular TRU worker really doesn't have any idea of when the Lego sets will be stocked. They may be (...) (25 years ago, 16-Nov-99, to lugnet.market.shopping)

(...) Yes. The system MUST have that capability, and it must be accessable. TRU would not have become the monolithic chain it has without inventory controls and excellent tracking capabilities. However, it is also possible, (even likely) that the (...) (25 years ago, 16-Nov-99, to lugnet.market.shopping)
