:::::IMPORTANT BRICKSWEST REGISTRATION INFORMATION:::::

In lugnet.events.brickswest, Mark Sandlin writes:

People keep spelling this out to me like I've never been to a gathering
before.

<snip>

I think people keep missing my point: If the cost of admission to the
park were separate from the cost of admission to the Brickswest stuff, I
wouldn't have blinked, because I would then have the *option* of
deciding for myself whether to pay for park admission.

<snip>

Mark's right...folks have been being very nice about this (and it's still
not really into the debate thing, so thank you all for that!)...but he's
being lambasted just for playing devil's advocate here, and if it hadn't
been him, it would've been sombody else. Mark has been involved with the
organizers since the beginning of BricksWest, and has been privy (if not
overly vocal before) to most of the behind-the-scenes goings-on.

__________

Let me post this information, then we can just let it simmer for a bit while
I work out the particulars with the organizing comittee folks in private,
then we'll re-visit it soon...

I'm seeing the need to re-visit an old idea of mine, one that ties in nicely
with some of the non-LUGNET publicity we are persuing for BricksWest, and
will possibly be the solution to this and some off-line discussions taking
place.

I had originally intended to have a day rate of $10.00 at the door, allowing
access to JUST the BricksWest sessions at the hotel. This was mainly for the
folks who might be attending LEGOLAND on that weekend, but had no
foreknowledge of BricksWest...folks we could draw over from the park who
just wanted to check out the goings-on. Though this is still the plan, I of
course didn't see the need to publicize it here or via the event web site,
as that wouldn't do anyone who didn't know about BricksWest in the first
place a bit of good (circular logic, but sound).

How about this idea: Extend the day rate to those who want to come to the
event at the hotel only, but who have no interest in going to the park with
the group, or who have passes already. This allows us to cover our hotel and
insurance costs, but gives us attendees with no perks (no shirt, no engraved
name badge, no luau at the park, no goodies, etc.). I'm not thrilled with
this idea, but it's a way to alleviate some of the strain people are
feeling/causing over this.

For the record, the $30.00 cost for LEGOLAND just covers the reception and
luau, so those with passes for park entrance still wouldn't be able to
attend the luau, but there is no way to please everyone over this. This is a
package price deal with the park (entrance + reception + luau), and there is
no way to split it up. It's either $30.00, or nothing.

So that's it...think on it, especially if you are someone who would take
advantage of this pricing even with the limitations it imposes. Don't register

__________

People are beginning to ask "If I'm an exhibitor, do I have to pay
registration?" or "I'm so-and-so, can I be considered a special guest, and
not pay registration?". I have a question for those folks..."Who do you
think should pay for your attendance, if not you?" This is a volunteer,
non-profit event. It's your's and mine and their's. I'm paying registration,
Tim Courtney is paying registration, Derek Schin is paying
registration...we've been the most involved in putting this thing together,
and we realize that we still need to pony up the bucks...that's the way it is.

I state again, there is no entity backing this event with money. If it does
not break even, cost wise, I get the bill. There is no profit realized from
this event. No one is paid for their work. I need to be certain that
everyone understands this, and I'm not entirely certain that the message is
getting through to everyone.

I don't intend to be gruff when stating the above, I just want to be
absolutly certain that everyone understands the gravity of this situation.
We can all get together and have a great time, but if the costs aren't met,
I am liable...it's very simple, and I certainly hope that none of you wish
me to take this kind of a hit just so you can attend free of charge, or at a
discount, or whatever. If you have any more questions or concerns on this
point, please feel free to contact me privately.

Matt

Hi, I'm Mark. No not him, one of the other ones in Seattle. Just call me Mark (3) Anyway I'm one of the ones on the fence. Yes, ten bucks is better. But why a half day? What is up with that? Let me guess, it's a guided tour. It'd better be a kick (...) (23 years ago, 4-Dec-01, to lugnet.events.brickswest)

But it didn't cost $75 to go to Brad Hamilton's house (thanks Brad) and hang out with everyone. (...) (23 years ago, 3-Dec-01, to lugnet.events.brickswest)
