Compare to costs of commercial/technical/business conferences at many
hundreds of $$, and I think it's a steal!

(just a note, me neither)

commercial/technical/business/sci-fi/whatever cons may cost a lot, but
they're:

1) open to the public
2) have vendors
3) for profit

not to mention they are often:

4) paid for by employer or
5) tax-deductible

Keeping in mind we're talking two different types of events, IMO $75 sounds a
bit steep but worth it.  (Course, a family of four in Northern California might
opt for a day of skiing at Tahoe instead!)
