The sweepstakes is only open to US residents.

Hohum.....Yet another international company ignoring their international
customers by running a "US residents only" competition. How many times have I
seen that?

Hey, you guys at TLC, WAKE UP!!! The rest of the world buys your product, so
how about running market research and competitions for them too?! How
incredibly frustrating to browse through an internationally accessible website
for an internationally purchasable product and find out that market research
and product availability is limited to the US, with the rest of the world
picking up the crumbs from under their table.

Perhaps TLC isn't interested in what their customers have to say in these
"other" countries. Well I'll say it now. In Australia, LEGO is;

1. Too expensive. After currency conversions the sets are nearly twice the
price as those in the US. I can only surmise that it is the same or similar in
"other" countries.

2. Always at least 6-9 months behind the US. Why does it take that long for
sets to find their way "down under". It's not that far away.

3. Not widely available. Only a few major retail chains carry the LEGO range.
Most of the smaller toy stores probably can't afford to carry the brand due to
the price/turnover factor. Hey, here's a thought. If it was a bit cheaper,
more people might buy it, so the decrease in profit from per-set prices is
more than offset by the increase in turnover of the set.

4. Limited in set availability. There are so many sets you can see on TLC's
website that are not available in Australia. This is very frustrating, and
something which defies explanation. Are they worried that the sets won't sell?
How do they know if they never make them available?! Making thhe entire range
available, along with dropping the price, would increase their turnover. I
guarantee it!

5. Hopeless with after-sales service (I speak for Australia only here). With
the latest bruhaha about parts packs being discontinued or drastically limited
from 2000 onwards, and the fact that every TLC employee in Australia seems to
know significantly less about the product and inner workings of TLC's Head
Office than most AFOL's, TLC seems to be taking several steps backwards. The
recent "Three Cheers" thread is fantastic, it does give us hope. But I would
like to see something that will give me cause to post a "Three Cheers" thread
in lugnet.loc.au and not just lugnet.robotics (which I don't read because I'm
not into Mindstorms).

In a letter I recently received from the Marketing Manager of TLC Australia he
said "It is The LEGO Company's objective to be the most powerful brand with
families with childrem by the year 2005". If TLC wish to achieve this in
Australia, they need to address the five points above before they can even
dream of being "the most powerful brand", and address them quickly. Even
adopting some of the business ideas of TLC USA would go a long way to
addressing these issues.

Forgive this long and negative post. I am in a particularly foul mood at the
moment after a painful ingrown toenail operation. But I am also extremely
frustrated by being disadvantaged because I live in Australia and not the US
when it comes to buying LEGO. And seeing LEGO competitions "for US residents
only" gets fair up my nose.

C'mon TLC, how about applying some tlc to the rest of the LEGO worl too.

Dear Peter, If this is any comfort, the situation in Israel isn't much better. I didn't know by how much it was off until I moved to the US (three months ago). But I know now. For contrast, let me tell you this - I used to buy Lego's through (...) (25 years ago, 25-Nov-99, to lugnet.general, lugnet.dear-lego, lugnet.loc.au)

Apparently, this isn't new, but I don't remember seeing anything about it on LUGNET before. In the Parent's section at www.lego.com, there's a sweepstakes running from now until the end of April. The sweepstakes is only open to US residents. The (...) (25 years ago, 4-Oct-99, to lugnet.announce)
