(Hopefully this is a constructive post ... let me know via e-mail if it doesn't
move us any further to a solution)
First of all, I'm happy we are having this discussion. This shows me that there
is interest in the project, which has definitely been on the back burner. I
wasn't going to bring it up until I had a nice MOC to contribute and have
rethought the whole purpose of the site. But since it HAS been brought up, I
can't help but comment - I still feel like the concept could work if done
properly. Also, because I lurk (and read .castle daily), I have seen and heard
many opinions. Just because I am not vocal does not make me uninformed :)
So ...
Why CW is currently dead:
The reason Castle World has been dead is because the current foundation that it
sits on is not solid (i.e. - to dependent on someone, in this case the admin
person, to micromanage the account).
I don't think Richard is dead-set on managining the site, but he does want to
manage the archive. To clarify, the archive is everything that has been done in
CW up to now (or a year ago if you want to be technical :)
To move forward:
I feel that people need to understand the purpose of Castle World. I have
thought deeply about what I want out of it - to have a forum of interaction with
other members in the castle community. But is that what CW is to others? Until
there is a clear definition of what CW is, it doesn't matter who is working on
it. What are the working ON?
The way I would like to see it set up (and yes - it needs to get revamped) is
for people to form different guilds. For example, if I want to set up my
kingdom, I would make a Wolfpack Guild:
http://www.arches.uga.edu/~verneer/guild/guild.html (1)
From there, I could run stories and display the different MOC's. I would be the
admin of my own site. If someone wanted to join my guild, they could apply and
then we would work together (or not - no hard feelings). If a guild becomes
stagnant, oh well - join an active one. Hopefully there will be at least one :)
I feel that this solves a lot of problems and restores CW to what it was
supposed to be. Now, there will be a main CW site that will have links to all
the guilds and some miscallenous site. A few people could be in charge of
updating that site. If those are the people on the committee, that's fine. It
wouldn't take much maintance.
So that's my proposal. Feel free to comment - I will be happy to do whatever to
get the project back on track. I'm not concerned about being an admin person,
but I do want the project to be restored on a solid foundation.
I feel that what Richard was saying about taking things slowly was more directed
at deciding WHAT needs to get done before we do it. So let's :)

(1) - This is just an example of what a guild page COULD look like. I'm not
starting a guild right now ...

| In lugnet.castle.org.cw, Pawel Nazarewicz wrote some stuff that I deleted. Um, excuse me, can I say something? I've been loosely following this discussion for a while, and I've seen some tense exchanges. I think Castle World is an excellent thing (...) (21 years ago, 3-Sep-03, to lugnet.castle.org.cw)

| (...) Richard, I'm sorry. This is not going to be a nice post. I've done my best to vent this elsewhere but I will not hold it back any longer. How much more slowly do you wish to go Richard? Look at the Castle World website. The last update was (...) (21 years ago, 2-Sep-03, to lugnet.castle.org.cw) !!
