Sorry if I've scared you with all that next 5 years stuff ;-)

I almost died in my chair!

Almost what I thought when I read that one. Will Harry Potter
consume the prospects of a castle line in the near future as the
StarWars syndication did for the space line.

I have understood that both the SW and HP lines have been very good for TLC,
so I guess there is no arguing with success.  I just don't see why a
licensed toy has to entirely replace an existing theme line -- I really
don't see these licensed toys as actually replacing the themes in question.
Someone tried to make me watch the HP movie (I fell alseep) and while I saw
some castle-like venues and myth-based creatures the HP stories are very
clearly something besides castle.

Yes, I believe that Hp is more themed to a mythological/ fantasy setting
than castle. In my opinion, it's modernized fantasy taken to the extreme,
which gets boring fast. In fact, I read all four books and saw the movie,
but I don't see what exactly made HP "catch on". Almost every book is the
same, except that Harry Knows more spells or fights a new minion.

Oh yeah, the movie was okay, but between that and something like Road to
Perdition, I think I would skip Harry Potter (I can't get over those
mob movies :)

Thankfully, the Legends, Classics, and MOC lines are perceived as something
else again -- so at least we have those things.  And I hope there will be
much more there.

Thank goodness for that. I'm hoping lego will release a new legend (that
I can either afford, or appeals to me) sometime soon. Just hoping for either
some new castle items or anything blacktron.

I dunno, this wish-listing is making me remember back when LD was announced.
Maybe I am still asleep, but I seem to recall a discussion about LD
releasing rarer elements to order.  I think it was supposed to be something
like LD announcing a set of possible elements in certain colors and then
people voting on them until the interest was high enough that TLC would be
sure of meeting costs plus a reasonable profit margin.  Something like that.
I can't recall if that was part of an official LD statement or just people
wishing for stuff themselves. Ho hum...

Maybe...I like the challange of getting rare parts, but can't stand the
prospect of having to resort to drastic measures to get a so called "scarce
piece" in todays sets like for instance, bulk light grey bricks. Maybe
those are just tactics to boost bulk sales, or you can always blame
juniorization .
