Yep, and it got broken in a past version. Should be working in
the newest version. If not, drop me a note.
If you asked me how to change the .LDR format, I would not know where to
begin. I view almost every single command, directory structure, and
convention as fatally flawed. I fixed what I could in LDLite, and have
accepted the rest. I'm actually quite curious to see whether LXF has enough
similar flaws to make geometry conversion between the two possible. :)
Well, except, .LDR has one thing that no others do (to my knowledge) and
that is the Type-5 soft-edge conditional lines. I beautiful compromise
between information in the part and appearance on the screen. I know most
POV images drop those lines, and few really appreciate them. But I hold the
old inked-by-hand set instructions in high regard as true art, or at least
an example of true craftmanship. You loose often the clarity of illustration
when going to a shaded, raytraced image. Every try to build a model from
instructions someone made by photographing a model at various steps? It's a
pain; the abstraction of Type-5 lines adds something significant. Now, given
a complete geometry with normals, triangle strips, etc you can generate
conditional lines automatically, but the .LDR format sidestepped the need
for that level of detail.
Couple this with the part authors' attention to putting in Type 2 lines at
appropriate locations, and you end up with really nice looking parts, beyond
what can be generated from a simple triangle mesh.
