Hmmm, I must confess to the opposite problem - I very rarely build the sets at all, and purchase them for the pieces. The only exceptions from the past 5 years or so have been the first year Star Wars sets and the Life On Mars mechs. The Star Wars (...) (24 years ago, 29-Mar-01, to lugnet.build)

For me it depends on the set. For sets I really like, I'll build them for a while, but I usually can't wait to cannibalize them for parts. A lot of times, I dislike the set and am just buying it (often many copies) for parts. For example, I have 12 (...) (24 years ago, 29-Mar-01, to lugnet.build)

Hmm, my building habits are.... Right now I'm primarily in sorting mode. It was a fairly obvious idea but one I had to make and it was a lot of fun making the set. Thank god for bulk purchases of the B&W tiles 2x2 from LD. And some timely purchases of blue slope 45 2x2s. I have a tendency to let the models I build accumulate, until I reach the point where I can't bear to see all the pieces that are unavailable. I have almost the same problem in reverse. Once I've built a set using the instructions, I have a really hard time taking it apart. It will stay assembled for weeks before I can make myself tear it apart. Also, I have an odd compulsion to position (...) (24 years ago, 29-Mar-01, to lugnet.build)

I'm getting a 404 on (URL) as long as I'm on this thread, great work. Not just on the scene composition, which is superb, but also on the creations themselves. I quite like the legs on the A66. I'm in the build, photograph, then put the model up or away somewhere and buy new Lego mode. It's just too much trouble usually for me to take apart and re-sort one of my models. Dust is also an issue with my models. Not the mention the ill effects of exposing white pieces to too much light - yuck! That's why I treat my limited supply of white elements as if they were photosensitive paper; I cover them up and only use them (...) Good question! (...) You left out: Build, copy with improvements using another set of pieces, cycle till you are happy, then keep the final iteration together "indefinitely" That's me. I guess I fall into the "Build, photograph and tear down to build anew" category. Putting ones MOCs into .DAT file format greatly eases the heartbreak of having to destroy ones models for future creations. Or so I think... ;-) (...) Ouch. My first thought was that you could push the axles through, but looking closer, I see those are axle connectors, and so those are two length 3 axles, not one length 6 axle.
