I have almost the same problem in reverse.  Once I've built a set using the
instructions, I have a really hard time taking it apart.  It will stay
assembled for weeks before I can make myself tear it apart.

Also, I have an odd compulsion to position things _exactly_ the way they are
in the instructions.  If a piece is at an angle, I put it at that same
angle.

We've got problems :-)

Ever since my little-kid days I have always felt a need to build the
set using the instructions at least once, even if it's a really dumb
one that I just bought for the parts.  But lately I've started buying
more than one of some sets, and am finding that to be kind of silly,
though I haven't yet stopped doing it.  When I'd buy a pair of sets
(which I did at the recent Kmart BOGO50% sale), I'd sit down with my
wife next to me and we'd each build one of them.  That was kind of
fun, since it's usually hard to share Lego with someone.

Am I the only one who feels this odd compulsion?  Sometimes I'll tear
it apart very soon after building it, but it just doesn't feel right
to not build the set that Lego designed.  It's kind of like paying
tribute or something...
