I'm not an 'expert' on mecha - I haven't actually built one yet - but I did
stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night... ;)
As for tips, I can't remember which site it was (anyone? anyone?) but one of
them had an 'exploded' view of the hip assembly for making legs with feet
that angle outward - a key for a stable-standing 'mech. Being at work, I
don't have the time to look for it but I know it's out there.
I'd say that one of the best lists of mecha links is right on the .mecha
page. look at the links on the lower left side. They're all great sources of
inspiration though the sites I, personally, find myself going to the most
often (1) are:

(1) This isn't to slight the ones I didn't mention. Every one of those pages
listed is time well spent when one is gearing up for 'mech building. Each
has excellent ideas, just used in different ways.
