That would be my expectation too. Unless the pad is fuzzy enough to get at
the sides a bit? Or the fluid picked up by successive flanges works its way
down to the edges?

The original report says they saw an improvement in performance. Maybe
that's a placebo effect?

Hopefully Zonker will get his cookies straightened out and can fill us in.
