I'm not sure. I can't say they definitively didn't ever do red/yellow/black
striping but my experience agrees with yours, only plain with black lettering.
No one has yet commmented that the stripe that was chosen was only yellow
instead of black/yellow, I don't think... but that's a nitpick. The extra
color would have thickened it up considerably so I think they made a good
choice.
I'm digging this model a lot and like the rest of you, wondering who
designed it. I'm assuming it's not a part of the MOC line as it presumably
would be trumpeted... so it probably must have been Jorn.
Well, we all knew he's got it in him based on the preview models that LEGO
made publicly available. (and one could speculate that those weren't the
only ones he's done)
