Because Lucas told them to. I don't think Lucas would allow lego to
put out an incomplete starwars line. The Falcon is one of the most
recognized ships in the starwars universe.

(...) Not only is it one of the most recognized ships, it's also the one Lucas had the most security around when the first film was in production. I heard a funny story about this once. so if lucan told TLG that in order to fill the starwars licence they had to build a minifig scale death star they would do it, right. (26 years ago, 30-Mar-99, to lugnet.starwars)

(...) I think there are two reasons why there will be a falcon: 1. Considering what Hasbro and others have paid for their licenses from Lucasfilm it is likely that TLG has paid something in the high eight to possibly nine digit dollar amount for (...) (26 years ago, 30-Mar-99, to lugnet.starwars)

(...) from what i have read of lucas and his product lisencing, it works a bit differently than that. appearently, a toy maker desing's a model or figure or such and then presents it to lucas, who must approve the design. therefore, lucas wouldnt (...) (26 years ago, 31-Mar-99, to lugnet.starwars)
