I know exactly what you mean. The majority of my stuff is minifig.

However, I think the ships being microfig gives them an even larger sense of
scale, which makes them more impressive IMO.

Well, it was the features I wanted that decided it, otherwise they would have
been minifig scale (albeit slightly different designs). I wanted to make
capital ships that had decent-sized hangar bays and prodigious amounts of
gunnery - and it didnt seem appropriate to try and do that at minifig scale.
Plus Ive found it helps motivate me to micro-fy all my other ships so that I
have something to scale.
