In lugnet.starwars, Mike Petrucelli writes:
The Super Star Destroyer and the regualar Star Destroyer have the same bridge.
In Empire Strikes Back, Han attaches his ship to the back of a Star Destroyer
Bridge.  In Return of the Jedi, Han flies past the Super Star Destroyer Bridge.
Not only do they look the same, the same oversized bridge model was used in
both scenes. That make the point of reference and the subsequent 17.6km number
pretty much dead on.

Finally, another voice of reason! Thanks, Mike. I've been away from this
argument since I first chimed in, and I am STUNNED that people STILL try to
robotically spout the "company line" coming from offcial sources which
simple repeat old inaccuracies! I KNEW the bridges were the same, so thanks
for pointing out what had slipped my mind (the interior set of the control
area was the same as well)! besides, whether you can get accurate realtive
measurements from the films or not, the shots of the Imperial fleet in
Empire, to me at least, when looked at in relation to good refenece photos
of the models themselves, are quite clear in their establishment of the
relative sizes of the ships, at least within a few SD lengths (10-12). 5x?
8x? Common, people...it seemes like you have to overthink it to get away
from the proper determinations, not to get TO them!

ps When I say that ILM model reference is a key source, I DO NOT mean
neccesarily as far as scale between models (unless they were built to the
same scale - see my latest reply to Dave Eaton for more on that - otherwise
the SD would be LARGER than the Executor, Tantive IV larger than the SD,
etc. as the ILM models are), but ALWAYS as far as proper scale and
proportion with themselves (ie you can NOT trust most sketches or
schematics, as they are usually mildly to horribly inaccurate...Executor and
Tantive IV come to mind, and sadly, this is why the few toy/model
representations of these around are off as well...they were modelled of
flawed "blueprints" to begin with).
