CompactFlash port on the side, but do you think that would cost nothing? The set
is currently listed for au$430 at S@H, thats 50 or 60 more than the retail price
of the RCX sets, and includes less extra building parts. The higher the cost,
the less people are gonna buy these things. TLC have already said they are
aiming to increase the percentage of kids using NXT, they are not gonna do that
by increasing the cost (which is already substantially more).

I had a big message going about this, but ROSCO has save me the time to type it.
Ditto on all the above.

LEGO had a price point they wouldn't budge from.  According to the Wired
article, more than one of the MUPs lobbied for something more (I/O, more parts,
who knows) but it couldn't be done.  Does anybody honestly think for a second,
that LEGO & the MUPs wouldn't have liked more memory (or parts, or I/O)?  I
doubt it.  But for some reason (probably $$) it couldn't be done.

We can't have our cake & eat it too.  So what would one give up for the
additional memory?  Bluetooth capability?  USB port?  The third motor?  The
ultrasonic sensor?  20 LEGO elements (you pick which ones)?  Just because it is
cheap to add (according to some) doesn't matter at all, something has to go.

There are going to be plenty complain about the price of the NXT kits (probably
not so many on LUGNET).  I know lots of kids who don't have Mindstorms kits now
because they and their families can't afford them.  Adding more to the NXT kit &
raising the purchase cost (no matter how little we think it would) will only
make it worse.

I'll go back to my seat on the sidelines now.
