Yeah, then that would be like sumo-it'd get boring.

That said, the 'rice game' could be an event that could be redone, and there may
be more entries the next time it's attempted (seeing as how I ahve no weddings
on the 31st of January).

I think you'll hear a resounding "But really?  No!" if you suggest we redo Rice,
because that's the answer I got when I asked people to redo rice for the
November Hobby Show.

Where Connect 4 is concerned, I think it'd be an interesting game, but like
Bruce, I have doubts about the 'entertainment' value (not that everything

I recognize the game will be long.  In Bruce's opinion, he figures anything from
15-35 minutes a match IIRC.  Where I think entertainment value might come in is
being able to play the robots.

One idea I had was to have at least one fully working robot on one end of the
room for kids to play, while having two "live competition" matches playing on
the other end.

The problem with this is there's usually no one always ready for
playing--everyone's always tweaking something.  So as a result, we need someone
with an always working bot who doesn't want to be supercompetitive.  Plus
someone who's public-friendly who wouldn't mind showing library patrons how the
robot works and keeping them from breaking it.

(...) Actually, I wouldn't mind redoing rice, I have been thinking of ways to improve my 'bot. Perhaps there were problems with attending the November Hobby Show, rather than the type of contest. For example, I am planning a kitchen reno around (...) (21 years ago, 17-Sep-03, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

(...) Sure it would--after 3-4 times--but we're not running these events twice in a row right now. I'd like to see us run some of these events twice--the rice game would be ideal for that. (...) We need something reasonably exciting for the November (...) (21 years ago, 17-Sep-03, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

(...) I think this game is a bit different from most, in that quite often the tweaking and tuning will consist of actually playing a game against an opponent. Usually human. With that in mind, I'm sure when they're not playing against another robot, (...) (21 years ago, 17-Sep-03, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Lets hearken back to the 'good ol' days' when we did a competition a few times in a row, such as, say, marble sorting and brick stacking. What would happen was that a person showed up for said event, attempt it, and, during the course of the event, (...) (21 years ago, 17-Sep-03, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)
