Modern practitioners of Wicca will generally disavow any accusations of
sacrifice, soul-selling, etc.  The Wiccan Rede is: "An thou harm none, do
as thou wilt."  Just thought I'd mention it so you don't inadvertently
offend any Wiccans.  Digression over.

It's kind of you to consider the practitioners of alternative faiths like
this -- but it's not like Wiccans own either paganism or the past.

Digression continues...

This was specifically in reference to the use of the word "wiccans", and
not because of the use of the word "pagans".  I think pagan is a much more
generic term and I don't believe it refers to a specific faith - just any
non Judeo-Christian one.  Wicca/Wiccan on the other hand, does refer to a
specific faith.

So to sum up:
Pagan priests carrying out dark rituals of human sacrifice: probably not • offensive.
Wiccans carrying out dark rituals of human sacrifice: probably offensive.

Well, I didn't mean to reference the current (peaceful, I guess) practices of
people who call themselves Wiccans today.

That said, there is a body of beliefs and practices about witches and warlocks
that ranges from the Thessalians (IIRC) of Greece to the Salem witch trials.
Many of these people may have been pagans instead of what we would consider
today as wiccans. Whatever they called themselves, and however much of what was
attributed to them was the deranged paranoia of the Puritan mind, this
stereotype was what I was aiming at. (1)

(1) For example, black cat familiars, consummated deals with the devil, covens
with blood rites, cauldrons with certain body parts, power derived from the
moon (vs. men's power from the sun), earth goddesses/the Celtic white goddess
(IIRC), and the like. A big mishmash of stuff men used to explain/suppress
certain women of power.
