Ok, now, those are cool sets. But, take a look more closely -- they've got
specialized pieces all over. And sure, the minifigs have classic smilies --
but they don't have the even-more-classic non-movable arms & legs w/ blank
faces.

BTW, how many people integrate both the older and newer minifigs in
their layouts?  I've decided to have both in my town.  It's kinda like
having two different races.

They are similar in many ways but there are some important differences
too.  Aside from the physical differences, they have different cultural
backgrounds.  The Mini-Figures (TM) prefer to live in houses and
structures that have 4 walls whereas the minifigs prefer structures that
are more in scale with their height.  It used to be believed that the
minifigs were a happier people, as evidenced by their smileys, but in
recent years this has been discovered to be a cultural myth.  The
Mini-Figures (TM) also had a predilection for wearing hats which the
minifigs at first adopted in their own culture, but later discarded in
favor of more flamboyant headgear.

In my town, the two races co-exist synergistically - which is a good
thing because the only hospital in town is Mini-Figure (TM) scale and
the only fire departments are minifig owned :)

(...) What other insectoids-specific parts? I think I've given you a comprehensive list. There's also the trans-yellow/green "eye" domes, but those seemed more generally useful than just insectoid, so I didn't count them. But even with those: three (...)
