Dave,

Scott:

In lugnet.general, Scott Edward Sanburn writes:
April Fools is a natural time to do it [a hoax], and I look forward to • next
years. I think people need to be more careful posting to groups, and make
sure we stay on charter to what the groups mean.

I'm torn about this.  I agree that lugnet.announcements might be a • problem,
since the supposition seems to be that information posted there is • presented
as accurate in good faith.  I'd be less worked up about a hoax posted to • an
appropriate group, such as if the BURP-BURP were posted to • lugnet.starwars.
There, it seems, the criteria for a general announcement are less formal.

Indeed. This just smelt bad to me.

At the same time, I think limiting hoaxes to April Fools' is self-
defeating.  That's like saying we can only have a hoax if the hoaxer(?) • labels
it as such--what's the point of someone's hard-wrought hoax, if there's no
joke to be made as a result?

Well, yes, but I don't mind hoaxes about my favorite subject, as others I am
sure. I guess this concerned me more than other ones, I guess. Seems we all
seem to be jumping on lots of needles lately, but I digress. This is getting
close to debate, and I am trying to stay away from. It's good for my heart.
: )
