Sorry, but I have to disagree. If a person is unable to express him- or herself
adequately without resorting to the use of language considered inappropriate for
the circumstances, then that person needs to develop the skills that would enable
him or her to do so. Insistence on adherence to certain standards of speech occurs
all the time-- it is the reason students need to learn to write in Standard
English, even if they use a different vernacular in speech. Granted, posts to
newsgroups tend to be more informal, but if by the nature of the group certain
language is deemed unnecessary or even inappropriate, then the participants should
accept the standard. (And no, I am not against freedom of speech. Would Holden
Caulfield have been as memorable had his words been censored?)
