Good point.  An alternate idea would be to rotate it 90 degrees in
the Y-plane.  That would place its default position in perfect
alignment with all the axles default positions.

But this kind of thing isn't done for other parts, is it?  Take the
bushes, wheels, gear cogs and so on; they must all be rotated to fit the
axles.

Leave it as-is?

We could just argue that the cam is essentially a pulley/wheel kind of
part, rather than a liftarm.  In that case, it is already rotated
properly.

Lay it down flat?

I feel that the cam is closely related to the parts refered to as
"liftarms" in LDraw, which includes the "halfbeams".  And they are all
flat.

Of course, the rotation of a single part does not matter too much, but
we recently had a discussion about the importance of a consistent
default rotation of LDraw parts.
