Patterned minifig heads:  just a suggestion.  I think using 1-8cyli.dat for
the non-patterned "cheeks" would improve the look of these parts in POV-Ray
quite a bit.  I don't know if the back of the head uses cyli.dats, but it
should as well.

The back of the head in the subpart does indeed use a 2-4cyli primitive.

You have a good point, but I am concerned about the two slices of cone-like
quads which form the curves above and below the cylindrical face area (on the
front of the head these are potentially decorated also, so are omitted from • the
subpart). POV-Ray will not be able to convert these conic slices so where it
converts cyli primitives to true curved surfaces, there will be a bad join
between the cylinder and the conic slice. As implemented this currently only
occurs at the back of the head.

What about using cone primitives for these surfaces.  What is the inner and
outer radius?

9326p19:  another suggestion.  Chris, if you add edge-line drawing of the
insignia in black before you draw the quads for the stripes, the insignia • will
show up better at lower magnifications.

I thought I did this - there are definitely type 2 lines drawn in the centre • of
the insignia quads. Does it make a difference if these are drawn before or
after the quads?

Yes.  You want to make sure you draw the black lines first, then the gray and
red surrounding quads, then the black inside quads.
