Alan, with all due respect, spare me the platatudes, and stop making excuses
for him. Flat out, things are 4 months behind and he could have avoided my
calling out if he was just concious enough to let us know what's going on.

I call it like I see it. We have not had an update in 4 months. While I came
off as very serious, the fact still remains that he is MIA as far as I'm
concerned. A responsible person communicates. We have heard nothing. I get
no thrill or happiness from bringing unhappiness to anyone. Dave is supposed
to be a friend of mine and a patron of this community. He can't take two
seconds to let us know what is going on?

Let's hope it's not too serious, but you know what?  That 'something' that
happened may be a serious life event.  It's hardly worth getting upset over
something about which we do know have full knowledge.  LEGO is a hobby for
most people, it's something for fun, when time and other responsibilities
permit.  But we all have lives away from LEGO, the internet and LUGNET etc.
Speaking for myself, my own well-being, that of my family and friends always
comes first.  Then my job, my home, and maybe my time for sleeping.
Everything else is secondary.  No offense Eric, but your interest in the
sidebar being updated isn't likely at the top of Dave's list of priorities
right now.  It wouldn't be for me either... not matter how much I enjoyed
something like that.

Dude. 4 months and not a peep? He took the responsibility the rest is academic.

To you... and for reasons already mentioned.  Your enthusiam is high.
Unfortunately, it sounds as though real life has dealt Dave something that
needing dealing with before the sidebar could be updated.  Speaking as
someone who has had similar life events in the last few years, I really
think you need to relax and let this play out.  I'm sure Dave will be in
touch when he can.  For his sake, I hope that whatever has happened will
soon give way to better days.

Look, apparently the BZ community was afforded a reason. Something that we
did not get. I see it as ignoring us.

My "Nasty" redderick is typical of my bent up feelings. I let them out and I
was calculated about it. There are people here who have worked to make this
a better place. We need Dave's help. We need our Curator.

Perhaps you could:

a)  Try getting in touch with Dave privately.  Have you emailed him?

Not interested in reaching out to him he shows me little support.

b)  Try getting in touch with the LUGNET admins.  Maybe a case could be made
to transfer Curatorship to another person until Dave either returns or asks
for a replacement to be named.

That is already being done. Shame he couldn't just let us know what the deal
is. I am not asking to know what the trouble is. A simple "Hey, I'll be
attending to the side bar shortly etc...." is all that is required.
But I have to instead wait and wait and wait with no communication.

c)  Volunteer to be that curator yourself. (strictly on a temporary basis)
I know that you already contribute in other ways/places, but perhaps the
right thing to do at this time is to step up to the plate and help your
group through this rocky time.

I would have no problem doing that if he were to admit he just can't keep up.
Instead all we get is silence and the collecting of Cyber dust.
Reach out and we'll be there. Say nothing and your going to be percieved as
uncaring.

What if the issue was reversed. Doing here but not keeping up with the
responsibilies there? My point is simple. We need our curator to keep this
place interesting. Thats why the job was assigned. I'm not aksing for
constant change. But with no update in 4 months and the plain fact that Dave
as you say ran the last two contests @ BZpower, then it is clear something
is wrong.

Yes, but again you're not really hearing what Rich told you in his posting.
Please Eric, take a minute to read it again... I think it might make you
feel better about what's going on.

Forget that. We get no update for 4 months and I'm going to say something.
I could care less what is happening if there is no ground for understanding
by not letting the community know he's got issues. Too many issues to be a
good curator. No appologies. Speak up. Your only gonna piss people off
without a dialog.

Again the followup is terrible, he has my phone number. We have mutual >friends.

Do you have his phone #?  Can you reach out to your acquaintance?  Perhaps
he could use a friendly call about now.

Not gonna. And how am I supposed to know what is going on. Dave's personnal
life is not my concern. The side bar is becuase I am a member of the community.
If he's got something going on, give us a shout. Let us know to be patient.
I am not a mind reader. As far as I am concerned he is doing nothing and I
want something done by someone who cares enough to open a dialog with the
community. I'm not gonna feel bad for Dave. I feel bad for the sucky sidebar.

Flat out I'm peeved. Sorry sir, but tough bricks if you can't identify, your
the one getting his help, while we get the cold shoulder.

Eric, the problem is that many of us *can* identify.... with Dave.  We all
have events from time to time that take us by surprise and knock us off our
feet.  Tragic sudden events can be a death in the family, a loss of a job, a
divorce, a flooded basement, a child who needs surgery.... the list goes on.
My heart goes out to Dave right now in the hopes he is dealing with
something less painful than any of these things, but that no matter what he
is dealing with that he comes through it o.k.

Look your going on the supposition that we know what's going on with Dave.
We don't know. All I see is a lousy job.

Try to remember Eric, this is fun stuff.... LEGO that is.  Maybe try to
focus on your building for a while, rather than LUGNET.  I'm sure things
will be back to your satisfaction sooner than you know it.  In the grand
scheme of things, an out-of-date sidebar isn't really a show-stopper... it's
a pothole on the road of life.

Take care,
Allan B.

Alan, while I appreciate your candor, the fact remains he's busted.
He spent time on other projects during a time when his duties were behind
here in this forum. I am observant and I found his activites to be
conflicting with his responsibilites here.

The irony of the situation is that I am very laid back and I like to
consider myself an understanding person. Yet when I see the lack of caring
and the disregard for open communication, you bet I'll say something.

Deal with it.

(...) Perhaps not. Eric, while I can appreciate your enthusiasm for LEGO and for your particular theme, I think you are being a bit unfair in this case. You may wish to reread some of Rich's response... specifically this part: (...) Let's hope it's (...) (21 years ago, 7-Feb-03, to lugnet.build.mecha) !
