I'm going to put my 2 cents here. IMO Mark N's comments here, Mark N's
comments there, and Brian Cooper's comments there are all valid in some ways.
My own thought is that yes, this forum lacks any sort of real discussion,
period. It's part of why I lurk so much.
However I've found that explaining what I do is nearly impossible. Like
Cooper said you have to just go build to understand. It's the translation of
the idea into the real 3d world that I love.
That said there is room for more open discussion. Maybe if someone was to
critique his model (as someone here already pointed out) it would open the
door for others to comment.
Personally I don't really look for a critique per se. I'm looking more for
a sort of acknoledgement from other mechers I admire. A nod of approval if
you will. A nod that only those who build understand, like a shared secret.
There is a sort of trial by fire for mecha builders. You have to log the
hours building to understand.
That said I agree with Mark N. Other who don't build or haven't posted in
.mecha should comment. There are design considerations, colors, scale,
proportions...tons of things to talk about. Sometimes someone will say
something that makes you say mmmmmmmmm. Or gives you a new idea. Or just
plain ol' pisses you off. But hey I build best when I'm angry/challenged so
that might be helpful too.
I'm done ranting. I have to go finish my mecha for BW03.
