Hoooly crap! Someone finally had the balls to say it! I have been wanting to
rant about this, but I figured everyone would think I am a jerk off. Now I
get to prove it :D Anyway to my point...
Scenerio:
Lets say a guy, I will name him Bob, Say Bob posts a brand new mech here and
asks the group what they like about it and what they don't like about it.
Several hours later Bob checks the boards here and sees he has three replies
to his post. He opens the first one and it says "Hey that's neat great job."
Ok, he opens the next message, "Holy cow, that amazing", and the third.
"Dude that rocks." Now Bob is a little put out. He asked a simple question
and all he got was meaningless banter and nothing with real substance to
better his building skills. What is Bob to think about this? He can tell
that the masses like it, or do they? Are people just saying they like to be
nice and to be accepted better into the group by not sticking out, not going
against the grain, NOT SAYING WHAT THEY REALLY TRUELY THINK.
This is a plauge in our group. I feel it and I know it is happening. I
understand that I have done it too. But from now on, I vow to say what I
really think about the creations I see here. Granted some of you will end up
getting pissed off at me. And you know what I say to that? GOOD!!! Why you
ask would I want you to get upset? To push you futher, make you build
better. If someone thinks your creation is good, then you build the same
way, over and over again, never really changing anything but the colors you
use and the story that goes with it. BUT if someone thinks it could use some
work, needs some polishing, or dare I say is not that great, then you will
either go back to the drawing board, start over and come up with something
WAY better, or you just whine and say what do they know, I am the best, and
hide in your stagnent brooding thoughts. (Or bring up the parts count issue,
which IMO is total crap. If you don't have enough white to make a Gundam,
then don't make one. Simple. Build with what you have. Mini stuff is the
rage now, be creative. Bigger is not always better, especially if it a
rainbow mech.)
Now I hope, I pray that this message will open some of your eyes a little. I
think we can go past the days of "Hey that's cool" posts and actually use
this board to relay some meaningful messages. If it looks cool to you, WHY
does it look cool. THINK. And for Pete's sake, take the time to read the
other replies first and say something else. Just don't regurgitate what
other have said, it's a waste of time.
Now if I do happen to see a "Hey that cool" post I will reply to that poster
and ask them why they think it cool. If you won't volunteer some useful info
the first time, I'm gonna try to pry it out of you the second time. This is
my new self appointed duty. Dave is the curator, I will be the "Questioner."
(pretty cheesey huh?) I wish not to discourage people to post, it's the
exact opposite, I wish people to post more, but with substance.
Finally, I want to make this clear. I am not a jerk off, I just wish to
remain truthful and in doing so you may get some hard hitting critism. I
will not insult you or your creation in any way. Neither will I use negative
or harsh comments that can be taken as offensive. I will simply say what I
truely think. And I hope that some of you will too.
