Speaking for myself - I have tried to stay away from building mecha - for the
very reasons that Bobby mentions.  A mecha without a weapon built from LEGO is
a pretty cool thing.  Especially some of the larger models seen on Brickshelf
in the last few months.  However, the addition of weaponary goes totally
against what I want to do with LEGO - and definitely don't want my son, who is
three to be exposed to it.  We enjoy looking at Brickshelf together, but we
must avoid many submitters pics because as a rule we do not view mecha, even on
the off chance that it is peaceful.

Building mecha that are primarily destructive in nature, i.e. outfitted with
weaponry, sends a very specific message - and I for one will not be a supporter
of it.

I understand your point Dave, but may I point you to a few mecha:

Mladen Pejic's Loader:

Mark Sandlin's Grunt
http://www.nwlink.com/~sandlin/lego/mecha/grunt/

I'm sure there are others, but these are the two that popped into my head
immediately.  Just goes to show that not all mecha are of a destructive
nature.  Frankly, I only put weapons and other "greeblies" on my mecha just
to add some flavor; otherwise, they look rather plain.  And, I think
building lego guns and weapons is just plain fun, especially on a scale of
my own Zion, or something bigger like Brian Cooper's Dark Gundams.  But, I
can understand why you don't want to expose your son to such things.
