I'd say look to the canonical trademark dilution examples. In each of
the following, the first is the trademarked name brand, the others are
imitators. And in each case, the trademark was either almost lost
because people tried to use the trademarked name as the generic noun for
the product, or it actually WAS lost.
Kleenex: Scotts, Puffs, various generics
Aspirin: (Bayer lost this one) lots of generic brands now
Xerox: IBM, Canon, Ricoh, etc.
Kodak: Various random cameras of the teens, 1920s and 1930s
of course, Coke itself lost the word Cola but it lost it to competitors
that were on the scene at the time, not johnny-come-latelies.
