I have to say this is a very well worded description of your view of what •                                                                        ^^^^

a Lego purist, but has purchased clone brand products...

Thanks; I hope it shed light on any missing things not previously covered.
BTW, in a single concise sentence, LUGNET is:  a communications tool with a
distinct purpose:

"To enrich the online experience for the LEGO enthusiast
in a growing number of new ways."[1]

That purpose hasn't changed since those words were written long ago.  The
interesting irony here, of course, is that, although this sentence and
others like it focus on LEGO as a brand, it -can- enrich the online
experience for certain types of LEGO® fans if there is a focused discussion
area for non-LEGO® brands of plastic building blocks (clones, in other
words) as well as groups for LEGO®.

I am glad you created the clone-brands group. I see the following value from
it:

Lugnet is becoming a central site of Lego fan presence. There will always be
people who say "what about brand-x?" Having a forum for discussion about
brand-x which has reasoned discussion, and won't attract fanatical diatribes
in my opinion will actually help Lego. We have the opportunity to say what
is good about the clone brands (and there are some good things about them),
but at the same time be able to point out why they fail to meet our
expectations based on Lego quality. I think this makes Lugnet a more
complete web-site.

I do too -- in the sense that it allows people who enjoy both LEGO® and
clone brands to communicate with one another without having to go elsewhere.
This is good for users, for us, and for TLG.  I don't know if the right
balance has been achieved yet, but with respect to the purpose of the site,
it feels OK for the time being.

I also hope that TLG representatives will read
clone-brands and see what is attractive about the clone-brands.

This reason is part of the long list of reasons for agreeing to create a
group on this site for clone brands.  Although we would be surprised if TLG
ever expressed official support for this site, we wouldn't be surprised to
learn of an increasing number of TLG employees reading and participating in
the various groups, in unofficial or official capacities.

The overall long-term attractiveness and usefulness of the site in TLG's
eyes is indeed a compelling consideration.
