Well okay... I guess its not a real MOC, (I wasnt sure what news group to use.)
AND maybe its NOT really even ~MY~ latest MOC... but actually the chick at the
tattoo shop second MOC... (Since she already did both my red one, and now the
new green and blue ones.)
BUT I am taking credit for it, since I am the one that bled for it.
I decided to get done just minutes before BrickFest, and there have been a few
pics posted of from that event, but here it is in all its glory.... without the
scabs... (charming eh??)

Spotlighted. But I cant really thank you for sharing this one, Janey. I think
this sort of thing (especially that you publicised it soo much(1)) is bad
press for the AFOL community at large.
Tattoos are an adult activity, and carry some significant health risks and
various social stigmas as well.
By posting (or was that boasting) about your tattoos here on a family
friendly forum - you have, perhaps unwittingly, encouraged young people to get
tattooed. In many areas, tattooing is illegal on non-adults. Tattoo parlours are
dens of iniquity, where wide eyed youth, intent on getting a tattoo of a simple
brick or their favourite Bionicle could come face to face (or face to other
parts of the body) with drug dealers, motorcycle gang members, and even drunken
sailors.
You are a cool builder, Janey. Your micro work rocks. You have a strong fan
following, which may well follow your example and be tattooed. But will they go
to a parlour which uses sterile needles and follows good health practices? Or
will they go to some undesirable part of town, unaccompanied, and bare their
shoulder (or worse) to some tattooed artist? If they do, do you take
responsibility for encouraging them to this choice?
You posted your tat post healing. Why not show the young and impressionable what
its like whilst it is healing? Its not all fun and bright colours. Why not
tell them the risks? Search the net for some pics of tats gone wrong, and post
them too.
As your post clearly showed, tattoos are addictive. Imagine if some kid starts
with a simple Bionicle tat, but his interests move on to technic, so he adds a
1x8 technic brick and a gear or two, and then he gets into mindstorms, so adds
an RCX, and then moves on to trains (adds a Santa Fe Super Chief) and then to
historic 1960s sets and so on. A body disfigured for what? Will you comfort him
when girls reject him? Will you give him a job when employers reject him?
And you justify your post by saying At least its Lego related?
Cheers

Fair enough, Richie's post was perhaps a little bit long-winded, but I really
don't see anything there that could be described as "(*(^&$$*&^%^(*)_*, )(&
)*)(&^&*^&$". Yes, I suppose it could even be called negative, but only in that
he raised some concerns that he may take very seriously, but the post was well
reasoned and not in any way viputerative from my reading of it.
I'm not sure how your post adds value to the discussion though. Please be a
little more specific as to what your actual concerns are. A string of gibberish
is not a compelling argument. At least Steve Dunn had the decency to respond
with his own well reasoned arguments, if a little long-winded again.

think this sort of thing (especially that you publicised it soo
much(1)) is bad press for the AFOL community at large.
|
Richie, i think this is a matter of opinion and this lugnet being one of the
freindliest places on the internet; your negativity, i find; is unwelcome. If
people want to go out and adorn their person with art that expresses themselves,
so be it. Some AFOLs express themselves through LEGO art, i believe some should
be able to do it in any way they see fit. Do you want us all to live in a
closet? Never to express even our opinions to anybody else ?
|
Tattoos are an adult activity, and carry some significant health risks and
various social stigmas as well.
|
Again richie, this is your narrow opinion. Im sure you could not denigh the
thousands of pacific islands childern who earn the painted status of family and
heritige on their skin as young as 5 years old. I think you will find all
cultures at one point painted their skin for one reason or another and many
still do it today.
|
By posting (or was that boasting) about your tattoos here on a family
friendly forum - you have, perhaps unwittingly, encouraged young people to
get tattooed.
|
I call it expressionism, Richie.
Im sure this Family Friendly Forum is just that. To reinforce that I encourage
anybody who is concidering purchasing a tattoo, to discuss this with their
family. These are the points i feel you neglect in your contributions to this
forum Richie.
|
In many areas, tattooing is illegal on non-adults. Tattoo
parlours are dens of iniquity, where wide eyed youth, intent on getting a
tattoo of a simple brick or their favourite Bionicle could come face to face
(or face to other parts of the body) with drug dealers, motorcycle gang
members, and even drunken sailors.
|
This opinion is also of concern. Isnt it likely kids are exposed to such things
as drugs in schools, sporting gyms or their friends house ? As a concerned
parent i believe a registered business, paying tax, run by people who vote could
not nessesarily be a bad place. I would be more concerned if my son developed a
liking for Bionicle. I think your comment about motorcycle gangs and sailors is
a terrible stereotype and a poor show of respect for those who serve our
country and are risking thier lives right now so that we can enjoy our (Adult or
Child)FOL way of life.
|
You are a cool builder, Janey. Your micro work rocks. You have a strong fan

|
I think you have jumped the (tattoo) gun Richie. Everybody is respocible for the
content of this community but again i see it is your contribution which is least
helpfull. I agree Janey may have neglected to offer guidance for those trying to
identify a reputable Tattoo studio, but your post has suggested nothing further
and simply put an attack on somebody trying to express themselves. You Richie as
a member of this community bere as much responcibility as anybody else for the
content of this place and you should not wipe your hands of it and start
making accusations.
|
You posted your tat post healing. Why not show the young and impressionable
what its like whilst it is healing? Its not all fun and bright colours.
Why not tell them the risks? Search the net for some pics of tats gone wrong,

|
I choose not to show the impressionable what its like as i beleive this is a
matter best suited to the discussion with a parent. As a peer/role model to this
community Richie, dont you think you could have helped identify the risks for
those you think may be encouragged into getting a 2x4 painted on thier person
? Not just leave them in the dark only lit by the persistant candel of a flame
war !
|
As your post clearly showed, tattoos are addictive. Imagine if some kid

when employers reject him?
|
I need some clarification here please.
Firstly on your point and then moves on to trains Is this a natural
progression or propoganda ? Secondly, please identify what the problem is with
having an RCX tattooed on ones self ? Disfigurement is again your opinion. It is
not up to you to critise somebody who has a historically accurate record of ones
own interests. Are you also critisising the process of documenting time ?
Your comments about girls and employers are not constructive. I find them
chauvinistic (remember Janey is a girl) and discriminatory. Im sure Janey didnt
have to show her skin to get the job she has !

And you justify your post by saying At least its Lego related?

I think it goes double for you, eric. I was quite enjoying this thread until you

Just how many times are you going to promise this before you actually do it?
I've been following lugnet for only three years or so, but i can recall several
instances of you flaming someone or crying your little heart out, only to
apologise a few hours later and promise to be more constructive. I gotta tell

'This place' exist purely as a result of people posting messages. If {you} want
'this place' to get better, the responsiblilty lies solely {with you}. Your
posting history is at least as bad and far, far worse than the vast majority of
the lugnet membership. So, perhaps, before hitting the 'post' button on such
'ogrish' posts, you should consider a policy of sleeping on it first, or at
least waiting until you come down from whatever it is you've been inbibing.
Note - I'm not trying to tell you what to do here. God forbid I do that!
Personally I find your particular brand of lunacy quite entertaining, but since
you seem to be apologetic about what you posted (again), I'm just suggesting a
way you might find will make your posting life a lot easier and less prone to
such emotional yo-yoing. I'll leave it between you and you conscience as to what
you do.

Eric made similar threats toward me awhile back. After consulting with folks
who were, at the time, LUGNET admins, I determined that his threats were
entirely empty.
And even if he had gone so far as to call my parents, I imagine they would have
laughed at the concept of a 35 year-old man getting so bent out of shape because
of the antics of a teenager... not to mention the creepiness factor of a 35
year-old man tracking down the phone number of a teenager, and the possible
legal ramifications of such actions...
Through my communications with other folks about said emailed threat, I also
came to the conclusion that it simply isnt worth it, that is, trying to
communicate with a man who clearly seems to have issues beyond a punk kid
getting on his nerves. Especially one who for some reason views his extra 20
years as a clear indication of his superior reasoning skills and maturity, when
numerous posts could be cited to the contrary.

Age-ism? Or smacka-lacka? YOU make the call!
I kinda like the interaction amongst different ages, really...I've learned quite
a bit by watching the unrestrained creativity of our youngers. So, I'm thinking
this was meant as smack.

This must be a 'turn of phrase' in common useage, methinks. Cause I don't get
it.
Just have some fun, already, e! (hoping I didn't misspell your initial)

Which is, if I recall correctly, a turn of phrase meaning your model is weakly
executed,and not very funny.
What model? Are you referring to Janeys tattoo as being weakly executed and not
very funny?

As your post clearly showed, tattoos are addictive. Imagine if some kid
starts with a simple Bionicle tat, but his interests move on to technic, so
he adds a 1x8 technic brick and a gear or two, and then he gets into
mindstorms, so adds an RCX, and then moves on to trains (adds a Santa Fe
Super Chief) and then to historic 1960s sets and so on. A body disfigured
for what? Will you comfort him when girls reject him?

Chicks dig tatoos, man.

Will you give him a job
when employers reject him?
|
Always get tattooed in a place you can cover!
|
And you justify your post by saying At least its Lego related?

Potentially better than:
"And wraps up the little tour of my house. Do you like it?"
"So what's behind that closed door over there?"
<glancing nervously at the door to the Lego room> "Ummmm...... stufffff?!"

How dare you show your bra-strap, you jezebel! Dont you know youre
encouraging young girls to run out and purchase supportive undergarments,
without any concern to what might happen to them? The perils they might
encounter are legion: disreputable sales clerks pulling the old
bait-and-switch, elbow throwing matrons ready to trample them during blow-out
sales, and lets not forget cross-dressers. At least you could have done some
research and included pictures of what could happen when things go wrong...you
know...snapped under wires....improperly labled cup sizes or cheap eastern
European super-fabrics that cause rashes that can only be cured with
prescription strength salves.
You do a disservice to all the young female Lego fans who just want to enjoy a
special time in a girls life.
Oh, yeah, and what about all the young boys you just gave impure thoughts to
with that careless bra strap!
Get thee to a nunnery woman!

I showed up at the nunnery, they turned me away, something about advising me to
come back when the fires freeze over.

Just awesome! Now you just need to add Step 2, then Step 3 and . . .
Be careful this doesn't spiral out of control and you end up turning into

if you do, promise us you'll post pictures ! :-D
