My arm put the block down instead of dropping it, so it usually made good
contact. But it is usually not perfect. I only ran it a few times though
since I still got other problems to sort through.

No, the long time come from my slow gearing of the x/y movement, slow arm and
very slow software. Right now I got a generic algorithm that can deal with any
pattern, but it take 2 seconds to decide where to pick up a block, and then it
take another 2 seconds to decide where to drop it. The RCX is suppose to have
a 16Mhz CPU, but the RCX firmware is running my code like it is 4Khz. :(
