I disagree. The fact that it comes from a higher, supernatural power is where it gets its justification and authority.

But that construction breaks from the “absolute” as soon as human faith comes into it. An actual revelation for you is just hearsay for me, so that’s where “absolute” falls apart.

Lacking a true, transcendent, and verifiable absolute, we’re only left with consensus, and for that we need no higher power.

Hmmm. The press is far from being beyond reproach, when ratings and circulation issues are on the line, not to mention inherent, idealogical biases.

True enough--in this sense, the press is far from free.
