Absolute Morality boils down to how we treat each other. This is directly
related to issues of respect and responsibility. A breakdown on either side
of the equation (you verses me) creates societal rifts.

John, at last youre speaking like an atheist!

:-0
Not in the least! That understanding comes directly from Jesus Himself: I give
you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you
also should love one another.

Is there anything you want to
tell me? 8^)

Yeah, that you are closer to being a Theist than you realize! :-)

By the way, Absolute Morality in this construction exists just fine without
appeals to a higher, supernatural power.

I disagree. The fact that it comes from a higher, supernatural power is where
it gets its justification and authority.

Where it has always gotten us: might makes right. It may not be a
pleasing or popular truth, but it has always been and continues to be true.
The only difference, over the millenia, lies in what constitutes might.

So you are saying that whoever is in power gets to set the rules? But
arent those in power elected and thus, presumably, reflect the sentiments
of the people?
|
Ideally, sure; the elected officials are beholden to the electorate. But
that breaks down as soon as the elected are able to entrench themselves (via
gerrymandering, for example, by either side).

Agreed.

If the press were free and every person able to read, then all would be safe.
As things are, were a long way from safe.
|
Hmmm. The press is far from being beyond reproach, when ratings and circulation
issues are on the line, not to mention inherent, idealogical biases.
