The US would only run if we elect the anti-war weenie John Kerry to office.

Im not clear what Mr Kellys politics are, but he does have my respect. Im no
fan of the Vietnam War (nether was he), but he did serve his country with
considerable distinction; both in country and in sharing his opinions &
experiences when he returned.
Compare that with George missing year Bushs Vietnam
record, and come back and tell us who the real weenie is! Tell us who has
shown courage in combat and who got pop to pull some strings.
Bushs record (from the link above):
1970: Bush gets his wings.
1970: Joins the Guards Champagne Unit.
1970: Promoted to first lieutenant. Rejected by University of Texas School of
Law.
1971: The Guard begins testing for drugs during physicals.
1971: Hired by Texas agricultural importer, Bush uses F-102 to shuttle tropical
plants from Florida.
1972: Transfers to Alabama Guard unit so he can work on Senator William Blounts
reelection campaign. According to his commanding officer, Bush never shows up
for duty while in Alabama, nor can anyone confirm he ever serves in the Guard
again.

Unless there is something else about the nuclear plant that one is (...) (21 years ago, 11-Feb-04, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, FTX)
