Perhaps a Princess...

...valid questions...

<snip>

I started back into Lego just before Auczilla 7 (A7), and was very happy to
find out about parts auctions.  Here was a way to bulk up on needed pieces
without having to buy entire sets.  I entered into A7 with furor, and bought
a lot (for me) of pieces.  6 months later, I have way more sets and a lot
less need for the parts I bought (a little frustrating, but who among us
doesn't want more:-)).  Having gotten more established, I now know what
parts I really need, and will likely still need in 6 months from now.

In Auczilla's defense, possible shipping time schedules are laid out in the
Auczilla FAQ (1).  After reading the shipping sections I came away with a
feeling of "here is what has happen in the past, this is why it happens,
here is an _estimate_, buyer beware because we don't know".  For future
Auczillas I will keep this in mind.  For me I will bid on less now that I
know that it will be a while before I see the winnings, but I won't be
surprised if it takes over 6 months after closing.  The only idea that I can
contribute, is to make it very clear to people new to Auczilla, that
shipping times are longer than smaller auctions, and you should take this
into consideration before biding.

As for my keeping track of my winnings, I keep the final update in an
Auczilla mail folder.  A shipment list could be included in the shipment
update stating that parts were shipped (idea).

Lastly, I want to thank Sarah for bringing up this topic for a couple of
reasons.  Firstly, I am sure that many people feel as she does and may be
frustrated with the delay.  Getting the topic discussed will make everybody
informed on the why and how of Auczilla auctions, and stop any "stewing".
Second, with all that Todd does for Lego enthusiast (especially here on
Lugnet) it might have seemed taboo to voice concerns, here on Lugnet, about
another project he organizes.  I think that Todd will be grateful for the
discussion; he has never shied away from feedback, good or bad.  Thirdly,
Sarah brought up the subject in an intelligent and respectful manner.

1. Which I of course read _after_ emailing Todd in early august, stating
that "my parts haven't arrived yet... what was up?".  FAQ = Future Answers
to Questions right? ;-)

(...) I read the FAQ. I realized shipping times were longer than expected. I still consider 6 months unacceptable turnaround. Another longtimer here who admits to being "very slow" in getting out auction sets STILL managed to keep me up to date/get (...) (26 years ago, 16-Dec-98, to lugnet.market.auction)

I forget if this is the proper place to discuss auction information. However, it seems the best -- unless the best is lugnet.general. But I thought to start it here and see how it goes. I want to say before continuing that I like Todd Lehman. I (...) (26 years ago, 16-Dec-98, to lugnet.market.auction)
