Well, he should have. If you look at a map of North America Omaha may be closer
to the actual centre of the continent but it does not have Chicago's status as
possibly the largest air and rail hub in the central part of North America.

It sucks that someone cannot drive but when talking about a Fest for a
continent-wide (perhaps even world-wide) market then driving is a luxury for the
few. Convenient Air and rail connections are of greater value for potential
attendees. At least you would not have to cross the Rocky Mountains to get
there. :)

This is why regional Fests are important. A regional fest should be geared
towards those people who can drive. A national or international Fest has to be
geared towards longer distance travel.

By any meaningful criteria Chicago IS centrally located for the North American
AFOL.
