No tomato here!
I have to agree, the old space theme was beautiful, coming out of the 1980s
into the last "true" theme-Exploriens.
Starships and bases revolved around a similar design
that I think needed a change.
I like the fresh ideas being injected by the Star Wars line, the parts alone
have been some of LEGO's most innovative. After 8(ish) years they will have a
plethora of molds for parts to choose from.
Even more, the Sci-Fi influence of creative parts has gone wild in the non-
space sub-themes. Let me ask you, take the lower half of the cockpit section
from the Tunnel Trasport (RR) and add a solid trans-purple window with roll-
cage and would that not be the best ship cockpit yet? Wider is better. Space
is not dead, it is just gathering strength (and parts).
Long Live the Spacers!!!!

| (...) You consider Exploriens to be the last "true" space theme? Why is that? Is it because the UFO and Insectoid sets come with different looking (alien) helmets? Or something else about the elements included in the later sets? Followups set to (...) (25 years ago, 27-Nov-99, to lugnet.dear-lego, lugnet.general)
