A fun use of L3P: this weekend I made some pretty Mac icons from DAT files using POV-Ray. Two of them became the new "Zoom In" and "Zoom Out" buttons in BrickDraw3D. -Erik (22 years ago, 9-Dec-02, to lugnet.cad.dev.mac)

If you do indeed have an All In Wonder Radeon (the original, not the 8500, 9700, etc), then your DVI connector only supports up to 1280x1024, according to the specs page on ATI's web site. (...) same 16:10 widescreen size (23"), and has the same native resulution (1920x1200) as the 23" Cinema Display. Plus, it lists for $500 less and natively supports DVI-D and HD15. Allthough these montors can be used with adapters (most, maybe not all of these mac displays are NOT regular DVI) the contrast/brightness CANNOT be adjusted with windows. I have a Mac Cinema Display 22" on my machine, being driven by an ATI9000 Pro graphics card. Both this and the 23" display are digital monitors. Binary is (for the next few days/weeks) available at: (URL) will probably need a video card better than a Rage 128. This doesn't work on my iBook 466 at all (but it does work on my G4/1.25). I don't know anything about Windows drivers except I can't ever get them to install right. But otherwise, sure. You need to buy a bunch of extra stuff though. You can either get Dr. Bott's DVIator with a video card with a DVI port. Dr. Bott's (...) (22 years ago, 7-Dec-02, to lugnet.cad.dev.mac)

I haven't been paying attention to AppleScript changes for OS X since May, but back then the scripts pretty much did the same thing they did in OS 9. (...) (...) I wondered that too. I would think that it wouldn't matter. If it tried to open a binary file, I don't think it would be any worse than openning a SimpleText or some other "TEXT" file. (...) These might not be the cleanest solution. I want the same binary to launch on OS 8.6 or 9. But I think you can still try to bring in a Cocoa framework at runtime to a CFM process though. This is more of an issue with POV-Ray. It has everything to do with Macintosh Meta data. l3p creates files with no meta data. If you type: /Developer/Tools/GetFileInfo -c /path/to/.pov /Developer/Tools/GetFileInfo -t /path/to/.pov You get: "" Which (...) (22 years ago, 5-Dec-02, to lugnet.cad.dev.mac)

(...) Essentially the \r make it one big line. L3P says it has the wrong number of fields. Maybe it reads the buffer limit and tries again because there is a variety of error messages per file. As I said, James said to do this at the command line /Developer/Tools/SetFile -c "POV3" -t "TEXT" /Users/yourname/yourfile.pov and after doing that, the POV-Ray programs processed the files normally. (...) How does it behave badly? Does it fail to read some lines? L3P uses fgets and then removes trailing \n and \r, but perhaps this fails on "old" mac files, which I believe use the CR ending. (...) Erik, How did you render the POV files produced by l3p. Neither POV-Ray 3.1 (Classic) nor POV-Ray 3.5 (OS X) liked the file that l3p produced. Lars, I used L3P this weekend. Since this is my first time using it, I tested only very simple uses. No problems found, unless you consider it a bug that it behaves badly with CR line endings. Niels, I'm not sure what to do about arrows that are hidden because the view angle hides it. Do you have any ideas? It seems to me that it is just like any other part that is hidden from view. You can't see it. Do you have ideas how to work around (...) (22 years ago, 3-Dec-02, to lugnet.cad.dev)

Thanks Jeroen, I guess there are multiple issues here. My original thoughts were primarily restricted to my LPub centric perspective, where we create step by step building instructions with a fixed view angle, and use rotation steps to virtually (...) (22 years ago, 3-Dec-02, to lugnet.cad.dev)

It is not only about adding text to a 3D world or a 2D render of it, but also about arrows. Arrows are (can be) used to point to a specific part or a group of parts. What about when this (these) part(s) are not visible in a different camera (...) (22 years ago, 3-Dec-02, to lugnet.cad.dev)

I was assuming that the user knows the view angle as well as any MLCad rotation steps that are in place when laying out the building instructions, but maybe this is too much work.
