Cool, could you post it when you get it working?

If, IF I get it working. I have no idea what I am doing most of the
time, but sometimes get it to work anyway. With OS 9 I could create a
drag-and-drop capable scriptlet/applet, but with OS X I cannot figure it
out :(

I find it very annoying that Apple is eliminating the whole file type
creator thing. It worked so well (much better the extensions). I am glad
that all of the applications that I have purchased still add type and
creator info to the file.

It isn't that Apple is getting rid of it, it is that Darwin, the Unix part
of Mac OS X doesn't deal with creator/file types.  I do alot with the
terminal, and all the unix tools do the same thing, create files with no
creator/file types.  Until Lars customizes it for Mac OS X, L3P pretty much
falls into the catigory of a unix tool.

It seems that there are depending on how you count them, there are three
or four kinds of programs that run on OS X.

Classic, OS X Carbon, Cocoa, Unix X11, and Unix Tools. I understand that
most unix/X11 applications wouldn't do the whole type/creator thing, but
it is annoying that some of the Cocoa (Carbon apps too?) change their
creator if you change their extension. Very crappy behavior.

Apple is really interesting.  It is 2 companies really, a bunch of Unix
geeks from NeXT, and the old Apple employees.  See this movie "The future of
Mac OS 9", by Keith Stattenfield, former Mac OS 9.x Technical Lead at Apple:

So, I guess OS 9 is dead? Long live OS 9.

(...) Don't worry, neither do I. ;-) (...) The OS 9 script should compile and work on OS X too. I haven't been paying attention to AppleScript changes for OS X since May, but back then the scripts pretty much did the same thing they did in OS 9. (...) (...) I wondered that too. I would think that it wouldn't matter. If it tried to open a binary file, I don't think it would be any worse than openning a SimpleText or some other "TEXT" file. POV-Ray still has to check the file for proper POV-Ray (...) (22 years ago, 6-Dec-02, to lugnet.cad.dev.mac)
