Indeed don't!  There is no better way to get great power and speed at
the same time then the pneumatics.  With a worm gear you can get great
power, but not much speed, with the gears you can get great speed, but
not much power.  With the big cylinder you can get both.  Just like in
the real world, pneumatics (hydrolics) require a lot more support stuff
to keep them working.

Well, ultimately the pneumatic power comes from the motor that drives the
compresser. At a given time frame you can only squeeze so much work out of the
motor, and pneumatics is no magic. It gives you great power but still not much
speed, if you count in the charging time.

What pneumatics really gives you is a convenient way to store the energy. The
compressor may takes minutes to fill up the air tank, but that's ok: The robot
can use the time to locate the soda can. Once the soda can is located and the
tank is filled up, the robot releases the great power accumulated in the tank,
grabbing and lifting up the can.

Pneumatics is for this kind of once-in-a-while tasks. For the continuous
operations, like the pneumatic engines, it cannot outperform the purely
electrical solutions except in the area of being cool.
