(...) It _says_ 'hydraulic' in many places, but it's really a pneumatic cylinder/plunger with a spring. Compressing, the plungers' valve opens all the way; releasing, airflow is restricted and slow the expansion of the spring. -gbr (25 years ago, 4-Aug-99, to lugnet.build)

I have half a mind to build a LEGO-compatible 9V battery holder just to try some tiny vehicle designs. Without an RCX you can't make it do much, but it would still be really fun to build small Technic models powered by a 9V battery and a micromotor. (...) Can I interject a bit here for my own clarification? We're talking about a LEGO only solution, right? I've added Kadee couplers and uncoupler magnets to perform this type of remote uncoupling, but that may not apply in this thread if the solution is (...) Okay, I'll bite -- how do you get 7/6 to be anywhere close to SQRT(3)? 7/6 is 1.167, and SQRT(3) is 1.732. Is there an additional 2:3 ratio hidden inside the "8880 transmission"? Also, I'm having a little trouble figuring out how the transmission (...) (25 years ago, 29-Jul-99, to lugnet.build)

  Art Deco (Moderne) buildings using log bricks.
 
I've been playing with some of those log bricks lately (mostly tan or white), and when you stack them up, they give a nice "Art Deco" appearance that a lot of old buildings in the 1920's and 1930's have - sort of a "Terra Cotta" sculptured look that (...) [Follow-up to .publish please] (...) The more like a photograph your image becomes, the more you'll want to use JPG. Conan has his uncle Chuck. Properly fed and cared for, Chuck can sort way more than 1 brick a second. Trust me.
