A mystery: The front suspension is nicely soft, to the point where
it might need additional springing when a brick-based body is
put on. The rear suspension, however, which appears to have
near-identical geometry, is hard as a rock...?
About that reverse gear: While it's a nice effort, the fact that
the wheels turn the engine reduces it's usefulness.
(I've built a number of transmissions with reverse gear for the
sake of trying it, but never put any of them in a car for the
same reason.)
Adding a single-direction lock to the engine would not increase
playability :)
But how about putting a direction-unifier(tm) on the wheel-side,
which routes rotation straight through a normal non-R tranny
and reversed through reverse-gear-appropriate gearing?
The result would be an engine that turns according to the selected
gear when 'driving' forward, and appropriately fast when backing
up - and always in the same direction.
