All in all, not bad (really: a nice chassis that needs some tinkering,
with the silliest body yet), with a good separation line between
chassis and body. I'd really like to be able to buy just the 5 chassis
boxes and the wheels.

But there doesn't seem to be that many parts involved in the red body,
anyway, so you can simply buy 5 8448's to achieve the same thing, right?
:-)

No, I meant the 5 sub-boxes that make up frame, fr/rr suspension, motor,
and transmission. Actually, there's a 6th for dashboard and seats
(not too great).

Thanks for the review of the 8448, it was very interesting to read.

More new parts: there's a new axle, which is as follows:
1 stud of plain axle, then a disk the diameter of a peg's center ring,
then 4.5 studs of axle, of which the first 1/2 stud, IIRC, is solid
round.
Also, just as in the plain/bevel thick gears, there's a 20-tooth
version of the flat 12-tooth bevel gear. As they use 2 of them
to go from the driveshaft to an axle parallel to the rear axle,
which uses a z16 to go to the differential, it appears to me that
this flat b20 (as well as the old b12? it might be to small in dia.
to work reliably) would fit perpendicularly with the diff.
and mesh with its z24 side, and thus not require the goofy extra
axle the 'new' diff has required so far.
